Bringing in the harvest…
Choice…
M’t:7:14: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
way : hodos {hod-os’}1) properly a) a way 1) a travelled way, road b) a travellers way, journey, travelling 2) metaph. a) a course of conduct b) a way (i.e. manner) of thinking, feeling, deciding
narrow : thlibo {thlee’-bo} 1) to press (as grapes), press hard upon 2) a compressed way a) narrow straitened, contracted 3) metaph. to trouble, afflict, distress
Jesus describes it well. The narrow way: difficulty, trouble, affliction, distress because we have changed our thinking and decided to follow Jesus which is contrary to the way of the World. We all know that Jesus lived this way when He was here among us. Jesus calls Himself the “way”. Have you ever heard the term “narrow minded”? I’m sure you have. It’s the opposite of “broad minded”. It’s a way of thinking, a course of conduct. Narrow is more conservative, constricted, Christ-minded. Broad is liberal, embracing the World’s view of things and entertaining many points of view…leading, of course, to destruction.
As followers of Jesus we seek constant fellowship with Him. Learn of Him. We should walk the same path as He did (1John2:6). When we completely come into fellowship with Him, He is abiding in us…(John15:5). Jesus says we can do nothing without Him. When we have received the Spirit of God at the moment of our conversion, we have received all we need to continue as His own. There is one catch. This “walk” can be compromised because of our choices. God will not put a “hook” into our jaws and drag us along this “way” we decided to follow. We must be willing to continue, to strive to enter in, to endure the hardships and sorrows, to strip ourselves of the old way of thinking. We will never be able to blame God for our stumbling and backsliding. The point is, CHOICE based on the RENEWAL of our minds. The power is there if our minds are put in the right place. Jesus came here because He was called of the Father to do God’s will and Jesus chose to do so. Even when He prayed for the cup to be taken away (Matt36:29), He chose to ultimately do God’s will and not His own. He CHOSE! Jesus had power over His own will. We are exhorted to do the same in 1Cor7:37. Power over our will by the RENEWAL of our minds! Eph:4:23: And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Ph’p:2:5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: We can never make good choices if our minds are not put into submission, made like Christ’s, and set to do God’s will instead of our own. That’s one of the things that separates us from this worldly way of thinking. When this is done, we can make the obvious, profitable, Godly choices. James 4:7 tells us to “submit” yourself to God. It is our will to submit or not. God “knocks”, we open!
God knows the essence of every person, their weaknesses and strengths. Every molecule of us. He doesn’t cause the calamity that comes upon us because of our doubt, sin or unbelief, we do. God sends it upon us because we choose to receive it. We are weak. We choose the inevitable consequences dictated by our actions or lack of them. God doesn’t make our choices, we do. God say’s “Here’s the power, here’s the renewal, choose to reach out and take it”. This long and painful walk is a matter of our own choice. For some of us, the glorious treasures revealed to us along the way are well worth the trip. Using the power given to you at your spiritual re-birth is a matter of your choice to use to endure and overcome, not God’s. A willingness to obey and follow God are the “keys” to victorious living in Him. We choose to be His or not. We are not robots. God’s followers are willing, not subjugated. We are drawn to God by His Spirit, His truth. We stay or go by our decision to do so. He knows who is saved or damned in the end. We don’t. We have a choice to decide the outcome. Our will is ours. Do God’s will or our own. Is the mind renewed? Then put a bridle and bit in it and start controlling your mind! You have the power.
The next time you’re tempted to sin, stop first and tell yourself, “I have a choice”, engage your renewed mind. CHRIST’S mind. That is your last step before your “point-of-no-return, if you will. Tell God you would rather do His will and not your own and watch Him deliver you. He will provide a way of escape (1Cor10:13), if you choose to take it. The same things “common to man” came upon Jesus. Did He fall? God gives you the victory over the temptation. You then have proof of a renewed spirit of your mind. You win! God honored your choice! Do not expect God to give you 100 percent when you are only giving Him 99. Choose all or nothing.
Everyone who hears the Word of God has a choice to receive or reject it. Heaven or Hell boils down to a choice. God has given all mankind the freedom to choose the eternal destination. God will always honor our choices and never stand in our way. If we choose to follow Him despite the cost, receive His Spirit, put our minds into submission and be renewed in that new Spirit, nothing can stop us from overcoming all that will be thrown against us as we walk the narrow way with Jesus. Choose and be steadfast.
1Co:7:37: Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
(The word “virgin” above is translated “personal purity”)
We decree in our hearts, we decide to be steadfast, we choose this. Not God. How can we submit to God’s will if we don’t have tight control of our own will? Get into the Holy Bible and feed on God’s word. ‘Nuff said. Praise God.
By the way,
HOW CAN YOU EXPECT TO RECEIVE A CROWN,
IF YOU HAVEN’T CARRIED YOUR CROSS? (Matt 16:24)
STRIVE TO ENTER IN!
