14 Jul 2008“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10,11
So the psalm goes and our heart’s cry out to our Almighty full of grace and mercy Saviour.
I write as one who has backslidden in my own Christian walk. I use to think that it could never happen to me as my love for Jesus was real and would keep me from walking on the path that leads only to destruction.
Since that time, I’ve realized that my own love can’t keep me from anything destructive. Don’t ever be deceived that because you are known as a good Christian or a righteous man or woman that you can’t fall. It happens probably more than what any of us realize as we are bombarded daily with the madness of this world.
As a result, I have become more aware of my own weaknesses, frailty, and sinful heart if left to it’s own devices.
Sin is truly ugly, demeaning, hurtful and unfulfilling, no matter how attractive the world makes it look.
I have a clearer understanding as why God hates sin so much. However, I do not recommend falling into it to find out. Sin is the opposite of everything good, everything that is real, and everything that is of God. Sin is nothing more than a disguised mockery of God and His purpose for our lives.
Sin mocks God and leaves us to die a death that was never designed for mankind.
There may very well be legitimate reasons as to why we might be more prone to falling into one sin over another, but that does not permit us to fall into the trap set for us. That is not an excuse and the reason if discovered should not even be dwelt on for very long in my opinion.
It is far better to get right with God and back on track and make use of every Christian resource that is applicable to whatever sin we are most prone to fall into so that we become stronger against the temptations of that sin when it appears before us yet once again. And we had better count on it as Satan knows what our major weakness is and he will continue to use it against us. Build up your defences daily by reading the Word of God and constant prayer.
A Christian friend and confidante could be a great resource as well. But if such a person is not available, you need to remember you are never alone.
The greatest Christian friend and confidante is our dear Lord Jesus Christ. He is never surprised by our blunders and outright foolishness. He is the One who makes us miserable in sin by showing us it’s ugliness until we are repulsed by it and return to Him.
But don’t ever believe you won’t be enticed by it again. Build your defences and be ready to stand strong for when it rears its ugly head again looking all warm and inviting.
Trust God now to build you up and thank Him daily for His saving grace, His blessed forgiveness and for being the Great Shepherd who came for you when you strayed.
He has shown us in Jesus alone will we find our true heart’s desire and fulfilment. Do not be deceived; He has called you to this.
May He bless you most abundantly in your walk and keep your eyes focused upon the goal, Christ Jesus, our reason and purpose for all eternity.
