“Reversed! The Kingdom of God is a Kingdom of reversed principles and priorities. Jesus said, “The first shall be last and the last first.” The Lord puts the people last, whom the world puts first.
The Glory of the King and His Kingdom
We hear about radical politicians, but there has never been one yet who reversed the ways of the world and its materialism and godlessness. Yet, when Paul and Silas went to Thessalonica, the Jews “which believed not” said, “these that have turned the world upside down are come hither also.” Unbelief had disturbed their eyesight. But, for their distorted vision, they would have seen that the world was already upside down. That’s why they had come, to put it the right way up.
We are so used to the world despite the warning of Scripture that the world is an enemy of God. Its standards are the opposite of all God wants. Money is at the top. People with money are at the top and are the privileged. The rest may grovel. Big business crushes the little people. Achieve greatness by standing on everybody else’s shoulders, and you will be honoured and envied. The trials of ordinary people cannot touch the world’s greats.

The Apostles of Christ were called to the noble activity ever given to the sons of men. They are princes in heaven, with their names engraved on the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem; i.e., they play a pivotal role in the gathering of mankind to God. Notwithstanding this circumstance, they were unanimously rejected by the wisdom of this world. With the exception of John the Beloved, each of them suffered a martyr’s death for the cause of the Lord Jesus. What is more, many of them were killed in the remote parts of the world.
I have often heard men declare that vast segments of this world have never heard the Gospel of Christ. This is not the whole truth! The Holy Spirit, speaking through Paul the Apostle, declared well before the end of the first century, “This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven” (Colossians 1:23, NIV). The world, then, is not as innocent as some would have us believe! The martyrdom of the Apostles of the Lamb will serve to illustrate the case in point. My heart is broken for those holy men, slain by sinful men. Many of the dark continents of the world are in their condition because they spurned the good word of the Gospel in the very first century! The world was not worthy of these champions of the Gospel, and will again face them on the day of judgement. The tables will be turned hen, as the saints judge the world!
Well before the end of the first century, the Gospel had been preached in Upper Asia, Phrygia, Parthia, Ethopia, Asiatic nations, Edessa, Greece, Italy, India, Africa, and Britain. The following history, taken from Foxes Book of Martyrs, unveils this remarkable spread of the Good News. Without modern technology or modes of transportation now employed, these men spread the Word with remarkable efficiency.
Philip–Was born at Bethsaida, in Galilee and was first called by the name of “disciple.” He labored diligently in Upper Asia, and suffered martyrdom at Heliopolis, in Phrygia. He was scourged, thrown into prison, and afterwards crucified, A.D. 54. Philip also preached in Syria).
Matthew–His occupation was that of a toll-gatherer, was born at Nazareth. He wrote his gospel in Hebrew, which was afterwards translated into Greek by James the Less. The scene of his labors was Parthia, and Ethiopia, in which latter country he suffered martyrdom, being slain with a halberd in the city of Nadabah, A.D. 60. (Matthew also preached in Macedonia, Syria, Persia, and Media.)
James the Less–Is supposed by some to have been the brother of our Lord, by a former wife of Joseph. This is very doubtful, and accords too much with the Catholic superstition, that Mary never had any other children except our Savior. He was elected to the oversight of the churches of Jerusalem; and was the author of the epistle ascribed to James in the sacred canon. At the age of ninety-four he was beat and stoned by the Jews; and finally had his brains dashed out with a fuller’s club.

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they”(Hebrews 1:1-4, NASB).
INTRODUCTION
Here is a book that is the center of much controversy. It should not surprise us that this is the case. Any writing that exalts the Lord Jesus Christ is bound to be the focus of attack from the evil one. He will attempt to neutralize the power of the message by diverting our attention to inconsequential matters.
Authorship There is, by no means, unanimity on the authorship of this book. Scholars are divided because God has not revealed it. Some are adamant in their opposition to Paul being its author, while others are equally insistent that he is. The following page contains a brief overview of the opinions of men on this subject. I share it with you to confirm that wise men differ where God has not spoken.
We must make it our business not to become distracted over the person used by God to write the book. I am of the opinion that the thoughts did belong to Paul. Who actually penned the book is of almost no consequence. For that matter, it is really of no consequence who among men was responsible for setting down the tenants of this book. God the Father purpose and revealed the book through the Holy Spirit, and gave it to us by the Lord Jesus, through Whom He has spoken in these last days. Little value will be gleaned from the book until we perceive and embrace this. It is a principle in Scripture that the Word is always to be associated with God, its ultimate Author; the Son, Who is the embodiment and personification of Scripture; and the Holy Spirit, through Whom it was given.
