Complaints. Grumbling. Dissatisfaction. Whether we would like to admit it or not, the Christian life is full of it, especially in the early days, just after we have declared our belief in the saving power of God.
When I came to believe in Christ, I was going through one of the toughest times in my life. I had been getting very few clients and almost zero income, which forced me to sometimes skip lunch for lack of funds. On top of that, I was frequently arguing with my wife, was almost forced to leave my house, and I had just failed a major exam in my career. It was quite a chain of depressing events, for me at least.

I think I’ve learned a bit about Paul reflecting on the first chapter of Ephesians. For instance, from chapter 1 verse 3-14 I’ve developed an impression that Paul was excitable. (Read the passage here.)
He was obviously wound up because the whole section is one long sentence in the Greek. He is so enthusiastic about his theme he doesn’t draw breath.
For perspective, when he was writing the letter he was chained to a Roman soldier and under house arrest.
